NOTD: China Glaze: Lemon Fizz

Feeling Spring(y) this week so I thought I would put on some Lemon Fizz by China Glaze. This is such a fun light yellow color. :)

I hope that all of you are having a great weekend. The hubby and I are working on the bookcases again this weekend, hoping to get them done.

What nail color are you rocking this weekend?

March Faves

I know I said the same thing last month but I can't believe it's already the end of March. This year is already a quarter over. o.O what!

It has been a lovely March though. It finally started warming up and we are currently having a gorgeous 81* day here in Kansas, a little hot for Spring though. I'm hoping that doesn't mean 100* days like last Summer. That wasn't any fun. What are you lovelies up to this weekend, anything fun? I plan to have my first snow cone  cup of the season some time this weekend as the little Sno Wizard place just recently opened back up. YUM!

Ok I won't ramble anymore on to the faves for the month. :)

My fave nail color of the month isn't a color at all. haha! I have been changing my nail color out a lot lately and because I sometimes wear glitter polish I use 100% acetone remover which isn't the best when it comes to your nails. Great for glitter, bad for nails! Boo! It actually makes them kind of brittle and prone to hang nails. I was having a problem with my nails growing like they usually do because they were pretty weak. A friend of mine mentioned the Nail Envy and I have been hooked ever since. If you haven't heard of or don't know what Nail Envy is, it's a nail strengthener made by OPI. I noticed a difference the first coat I ever put on. Great stuff!! I recommend checking it out, especially if you wear polish a lot or use 100% acetone remover.

A body product I've been loving this month has been my Goat Milk Stuff soap in Pink Sugar. I did a review on them here if you want to check it out. I love this family, company, and soap. It is just an all around great product. :)

The piece of jewelry I have been wearing a lot this month has been my sideways cross. I love this necklace. I can wear it with just about any outfit and I often will layer it with other necklaces as well. If you are interested in finding you a sideways cross necklace you can find all sorts on Etsy and Ebay.

Another fave has been my Rimmel Natural Bronzer, it is matte which I love. I'm not too big on shimmering bronzer. I have fair skin so it's often hard to find a bronzer that works for me but this one in 021 sunlight does the trick. Love it! Plus, it smells like Summer.

Lastly, my fave face product for the month (other than makeup) is my Dr Denese Hydroshield Ultra Moisturizing Face Serum. I plan to review this product soon. This has been hands down my favorite face serum. It is soooo expensive though so I'm going to give my Tarte oil a try and see if I can learn to love something else. Ha! I have tried many serums though and nothing has compared yet so we'll see.

I had planned to have a 6th hair product that I've been loving but I don't have anything new to show you this month, still loving the Joico K-pak Revitaluxe though. :)

What are your fave products (or anything really) that you have been loving this month?

Stockpile Organizing

Several home bloggers are having a Organize Your Home Link Party today. I was hoping to have my office up and ready to post for this party but the bookcases are still waiting to be stained. Shoot! I will hopefully have them up next week. :)

I have mentioned I coupon gradually in past posts but haven't talked much about couponing or my stockpiles. I thought for this organize your home link party I would add a couple photos of my stockpile organizing.

Just for those wondering, I do not extreme coupon. This is a very small stockpile compared to most couponers and doesn't last me years. haha! However, I never run out of something and have to say "shoot I forgot to pick up so and so...".

On to the organizing...

I keep all my stuff in their rightful homes, meaning no special stockpiling rooms here. ;)

This is were I keep all my non-edible stuff (besides laundry and cleaners). I just line everything up neatly and try to keep it from looking like a giant mess. I keep razors in the his and her boxes. I dumped all the band-aids I had stocked into an old face wipe container, works great. The bottom basket holds toothpaste, stomach meds, etc and the green tote holds deoderant.

I have 4 of these closets in my hallway, which 2 of keep stockpiling stuff and the other 2 have towels, linens, etc. I don't really care for this place we rent but it does have a lot of nice storage.

My laundry stock...

This is probably my favorite stockpile. Laundry detergent is so expensive and I like to endulge in other goodies like wood to build all my projects. haha

Do you coupon or have a stockpile of your own?

Foundation How to

Choosing the correct makeup foundation can be daunting and a real pain in the butt. Especially when you are choosing from numerous shades, coverage, and something that will work for oily, dry or normal skin. You want to look natural and like you're not wearing foundation as opposed to a fake tan on your face that doesn't match the rest of your body.

Which formula will work the best for me?

There are all kinds of foundations, which is just another ticker on the pain in the butt process of finding the right one to work for you.

Liquid and cream foundations, if you have dry skin, like myself, these foundations are going to be the best option for you. They will help hydrate your skin and keep it from looking flaky. If you tend to still have problems with flaky skin even with liquid/cream foundation then a good foundation primer will help as well.

Pressed powder, liquid to powder, or mineral foundations, these foundations tend to leave a matte finish, which works great and the best choice for those who have oily skin. These foundations will also work well for those who have normal skin who want that matte foundation look, often great for women who have signs of aging.

Mousse/Airbrush foundations, these are pretty new. They are made to sit on the skin and mask the look of wrinkles, lines, scars, etc. This type of foundation is made for those of all skin types.

So I know the type I need, how do I match my skin tone?

You want your foundation to be invisible on the skin, or nearly invisible. If you can see a line, so can everyone else. The key is not trying to cover up your problem areas but to make them appear less noticeable. Don't try to match your dark spots because it's just going to make you look super unnatural and cakey. This is why concealer plays a big role. You want your concealer to be a shade lighter than your actual skin tone to counter dark spots.

Fair and ivory skin can be a little tricky because you would think they are the same but they aren't really. While they are both characterized by the paleness and sensitivity to the sun. Fair skinned people are usually warmer and more pinkish in color. Whereas, ivory skin tends to be more cooler. Flip your wrist over and give your veins a look. If they are more greenish then your undertone is probably warmer, more blueish, cooler.

Olive and medium skin is typically warm and various shades darker than fair and ivory skin. These tones respond to sun by tanning as opposed to burning.

Dark skin also has a broad range of shades which range from light brown to dark ebony.

Knowing what tone you belong in is the easy part. Picking the right shade is a different story. Don't just guess your skin shade out of various shades, go where testers are available and try them out. When you have found the right foundation it will have "disappeared" leaving a even and smooth look. If you can't find that perfect shade don't hesitate to buy a shade lighter and darker to find your perfect blend.

Another important note is that your skin changes with seasons, sometimes dry and sometimes oily, light and darker. Don't commit yourself to using one foundation all year long. It is likely you will need something different for different times of the year.

Do you have a problem finding the perfect foundation for you or have you found the one that does the trick?

Office Inspiration

My current project is working on organizing and reworking our office. Since I started my blog in January I realized how uninspired it makes me feel and it is always a giant mess because of the lack of organization.

Hubby and I are working on building two of these bookcases. I will post those once we are finished, probably next week.

I just thought I would post some of my favorite pinterest finds for office inspiration just in case you lovelies needed some too.

I love this desk. I think it is perfect for what my hubby and I need considering I have to share my desk with his ham radio hobby and lets just say he takes up a good deal of this small space. The best part, they have building plans. Yes, please and thank you! :)

This is our bookcase inspiration. They aren't going to stand very tall, about 5'. I plan to put some art above it, probably our picture of the Smoky Mountains. It reminds me of home. :)

This idea is fun. I love storage and organization but it's even better and drool worthy for me when it looks classy and not plastic everywhere.

I could go on for ages with pictures that inspire me but I'll stop there. I hope to get this office under control in the next couple of weeks. It makes me giddy just thinking about it. Eeee!

Are you working on a office too or already have a great one? If you have some ideas to share, whether on a pinterest board or your own blog, I would love to see them. :)

Review: Tarte: The Miracle of Maracuja

The UPS man brought my kit in the mail on Friday and I was so excited to rip it open and check out all the goodies.

There is not any one single item that I don't like so I definitely give this product a thumbs up, esp if you got it for the QVC TSV price. They are selling it for $65.94, currently at a featured price, not far of from the $59 that it was as a TSV. This whole package costs over $200 alone so I think it's a steal even at the higher price.

I already loved and use the mascara so that was just a bonus to get a extra one. The other products I have never tried.

Here are some swatches.

Top to Bottom: Maracuja divine shine lip gloss in peaceful, Beauty & the box Amazonian clay eyeshadow quad in envoke the smoke, Cashmere waterproof gliding liner in black magic

I don't have any problems with the black eye liner, it's great. However, i'm not sure it is something I would repurchase. The NYX slide on works just as good and a lot cheaper. Though, I do like better about the Tarte liner is the small tip, much easier to control. It is also automatic unlike NYX. They both top urban decays 24/7 liners though.

The eyeshadow is pingmented and gorgeous. However, the only problem with this eyeshadow in this kit is it is definitely not for everyone. There are just some people who aren't going to wear a smokey purple look. Although you could wear them alone I just feel like this would probably be the biggest drawback for those who may not wear darker shadows. I love me some purple smoke so it suits me just dandy. :) The eyeshadow colors above from B to T are pink cloud (barely visable), silver mist, purple fog, and dark ash.

The lip gloss is lovely. It is slightly plumping and a tad shiny but just leaves a light natural look. The shade is in peaceful so it would work for anyone as it's pretty neutral and almost leaves no color at all on the lips. I'm not a huge lip gloss person, a prefer a moisturizing balm over gloss but this one is nice. It is not sticky and that is a biggy for me.

I have not tried the creaseless concealer or the oil yet so those are still up in the air. I will do a review on them at a later time. I'm kind of hoping to like the oil. The serum I normally use and love (Dr. Denese) I just ran out of and it's oh so expensive to repurchase.

My favorite part of the whole box is the blush.

When I first opened it I was like "OMG, this is way to dark, what was I thinking" but then I swatched it and I want more colors in this formula. Ha! Which i'm pretty sure they don't, as of yet, make.

left: blended right: swatched

It blends out into the most gorgeous color, so pretty. The color is called Shimmering Poppy. It does have a slight shimmer. I prefer matte blushes over shimmer but it is very slight so it doesn't bother me at all. This blush is definitely blendable so it would work with all skin tones. The brush it came with I also like but will not be using with this blush. I don't feel like it works well with the blush in my opinion but it is soft and nice so I will definitely be using it with something. This is called a bouncy blush and I love the texture. I have not tried Maybelline's bouncy blushes (what?.. I know..) so yeah I can't tell whether or not it's similar in texture. It tempts me to try out the bouncy blushes from Maybelline though, just to see.

I think I covered everything. I really enjoy this whole kit. I love the packaging, super cute. Tarte is slowly becoming one of my favorite makeup brands. :)

Note: I also received two deluxe samples, Tarte smooth operator eye primer (pictured above) and Tarte Brazilliance self tanner (not pictured above) that I will review at a later time as well.

Do you own this Tarte set? If not, do you like Tarte products?

Monday Munchies: Biscuit Donuts

Biscuit Donuts.... What? Yes...and they are oh soooo yummy! :)

Ingredients:
sugar
butter
cinnamon
biscuits (any kind will work except flakies)
oil

Sorry for the blurry pic, and I forgot to add butter to this pic too. Opps!

Directions:
Melt 4 tbsp of butter in microwave and set aside. Mix sugar and cinnamon on plate so it will be ready to dip donuts. I don't have exact measurements for the cinnamon or sugar. I just put the sugar on the plate and poured some cinnamon on top, mixed it around until a had a nice light brown mix. I then poured about 1/2 inch of oil in my skillet and let it get hot while making the holes for my donuts.

I used a melon baller to make my holes but you can use your finger or whatever you have available.

After your oil is hot and ready to go carefully place the donuts in and let them brown.

Once they are brown on one side flip them to brown on the other side.

After the donuts have cooked fully on both sides take them up and place them on a napkin lined plate or pan. Once they have cooled you will then dip one side in the melted butter (let drip) and then dip into the cinnamon/sugar mix. You will then do this process on the other side and continue on with the other donuts. All done... Enjoy!

I cooked the little cut outs too, waste not want not. ;) I'm going to be honest and say they were the best part. I actually might just make little donut holes from now on. haha

Spring blushes: Top 5 "drugstore" colors

I did my top 5 Spring nails here, so I thought I would move on to my other favorite beauty item for Spring, blushes.

Here are my top 5 "drugstore" Spring blushes. All of these blushes are $10 or under. :)

I love blush, it is definitely one of my fave makeup products. :) No matter your skin tone, i'm a believer that a good blush does wonders to brighten your skin and make you look younger. A light pink flushed look is hot for this Spring and Summer but if you aren't into straight pinks there are all kinds of peachy pinks available as well.

From top to bottom:
NYX Blushable Creme Stick: Plaza Pink
Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color: Shy Blush
Cover Girl: Pretty Peach
NYX Cream Blush: Boho Chic
ELF Studio Blush: Candid Coral

What is your favorite drugstore brand/color of blush?

Movie Rec: The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games started today. Obviously The Hunger Games are going to heat up the theaters all weekend so it was definitely on my movie to recommend list. The books were great and the movie is expected to be a hit as well.

Anyone heading out to see it today or this weekend?

While i'm on the subject of white hot movies out this year... The official release of Breaking Dawn Part 2 trailer was released today. If you have seen The Hunger Games you probably caught the preview already but if not go check it out! The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 hits theaters November 16.

Seven Beauty Sins

1. GREED:

What is your most inexpensive beauty item?

The cheapest item I own beauty wise would be a ELF eye primer. These cost $1.

What is your most expensive?

My most expensive item would be the Naked 2 palette at $50.

2. WRATH:

What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with?

I have a love/hate relationship with lipstick. I feel like with my skintone mixed with my red hair just makes it a PITA to find a lipstick that suits me. I don't know how many lipsticks i've bought just to pass it on to my mom or someone else. I usually stick to more sheer colors because of this. If anyone has any redhead/light skin lippies you would like to recommend i'm all ears.

What product has been the hardest to get?

Hmm, probably the Wet n Wild palettes, esp the 6 pans, when those first came out it was like pulling teeth to grab one before someone else did. Also, the Naked palette seemed hard for some people to get when it first came out but I got lucky and grabbed one up the first try.

3. GLUTTONY:

What are your most delicious beauty products?

My most delicious beauty product would have to be my baby lips, it smells so yummy!

4. SLOTH:

What beauty product do you neglect, due to laziness?

I neglect bronzer due to laziness. I will usually put it on (have been loving it lately) but when i'm just wanting to do a quick makeup routine I won't bother. Sometimes if i'm being really lazy i'll just skip makeup all together. haha

5. PRIDE:

What beauty product gives you the most self confidence?

I would have to say that foundation gives me the most self confidence simply because I don't wear any other makeup unless i'm also wearing foundation.

6. LUST:

What product did you lust after before you bought it?

The Naked palette.... and I still love it. :) I'm a neutral kind of gal and it works great for all my neutral looks that I like to wear most often.

7. ENVY:

What items would you most like to receive as a gift?

I would love to receive the Chanel Chance as a gift. It is on my wish list. :)

Have you done the seven beauty sins tag? If you have feel free to link it back here so I can check it out. :)

The Hunger Games Inspired Outfits

The Hunger Games starts tomorrow and in honor of the games I put together a few fun outfits inspired by the characters.

The black top and capri's outfit is a take on how Katniss looked during the games but a little dressed up with flats and a leather jacket rather than boots and a raincoat. The dress was a take of the girl on fire dress but bringing in her tomboy side with a leather jacket.

The boys looks were super simple. Peeta with cargo pants and a simple tshirt and Gale with cargo pants, a collared shirt, and vest. I dressed Haymitch up a little since he is a mentor with a dress top, vest, and jacket but with a little casual thrown in with the khaki pants.

Lastly, Effie is so out there so of course her outfit is bold and monotone. She would also have over the top eye makeup to match her over the top outfit. Primrose is super simple school girl with a grey skirt and a peter pan collared white shirt.

These were fun to make and I can't wait to go see the movie.

Do you plan to go see The Hunger Games tomorrow or this weekend?

Review: Pssssst! Dry Shampoo

"The original dry shampoo to refresh and rejuvenate hair by soaking up excess oil, removing product build-up and boosting volume. Hair looks, feels and smells freshly shampooed. Cleans, deodorizes and conditions hair-without water."

I'll just start off by saying I do like this product. It works partially as advertised. It soaks up the oils and gives me some volume. However, I do not think it gives you a look, feel, or smell of freshly shampooed hair. I'm not going to put dry shampoo on say a week old hair and assume that it is going to make it look like I washed my hair. I don't think so! However, if i've gone a day or two without washing my hair, which I usually do, then sometimes I will use dry shampoo to control excess oils. It still won't make it look freshly washed but helps and buys me a day if needed.

Now here is were I was curious about the product. I have only used one other dry shampoo (Suave dry shampoo) because i'm not into using it a lot and never cared to much about trying a bunch of brands. However, Psssst! felt the exact same, and I mean the exact same, as putting the Suave on. This made me curious to know if they were the exact same product and indeed the ingredients are pretty much one and the same. There are two ingredients different on both but for those two they are both silica and thickeners, which in essence is the same with different names.

The only three things that are different about these two products is the name and company who makes them and lastly the cost. Suave will run you $3 at Walgreens (sometimes less because unilever often has coupons for these products) and Pssssst! by Freeman Beauty will run you $6 at Walgreens. Who wants to pay twice as much for the same product? I know I don't and won't.

So yeah, I don't dislike this product. I actually think it works pretty good but again I think it works just the same as the Suave. I wouldn't recommend Pssssst! simply because it is twice as expensive. Don't let the price tag/company trick you, it's going to work the same.

Do you use dry shampoo? What brand do you use?

Easter Garland {+ Tutorial}

So last time I showed you my Easter wreath I made for my front door and mentioned at the end of that post I would show you my other Easter project.

Here is my Easter garland.

Want to make your own?

What you'll need:

Foam Easter eggs
Wire

{In this picture I show twine because that was what I had originally planned to use until I went and tried to actually use it. Yeah that didn't work out so well, so instead I used some wire.}

Directions:
If your foam eggs are ornaments like mine you will have to pull out the hanger portion and then use your wire to poke a hole through the egg. Continue this process, "threading" on the eggs. I laid all of my eggs out beforehand so that I would know which order I wanted the colors.
