Blog Update!!

Sorry I haven't posted a new blog (other than prescheduled posts) in a couple of weeks. We have been enjoying much needed family time. We went home to Tennessee but are back in Kansas, sick with colds this week but getting better. We had a great Christmas though and are very blessed. :)

I hope you all had a great holiday and are enjoying all your new toys you got. I plan to take the rest of this year off as a blog break and start back fresh in the new year. I have tons of new posts planned with lots of reviews, tips, and what I am probably most excited about is some new building projects. I got lots of new home decorating items for Christmas and I'm anxious to get the tree down and start making everything look fresh and new.

I also have the big blogiversary coming up in January so yay for being a year old in blogland. :)

Do you have any New Year Resolutions?

I rarely make resolutions but this year I'm committed to getting back in shape. I've fell off that bandwagon and feeling pretty crappy about it. :/  There are other resolutions as well like making my blog more organized and my house more organized as well.

Holiday Gift Guide 2012: Stocking Stuffers

Stockings are probably your easiest part of the gift giving but if for some reason you are stumped this year on what to put in your kids, spouses, or significant others stockings here are a few fun ideas.

head massagers
(Oh my... These are the best!!)

chapstick
mini flashlight
candy
fun straws
usb driver
(there are all kinds of cute ones... this owl... LOVE)

travel lotion
(or shower gel, body mist, etc)

crayons
fruit
razor refills
(stuff you need is always great, even deodorant or toothbrushes)

car fresheners
gift cards

Those were just a few ideas I came up with off the top of my head but there are sooo many more ideas.

What is something you love to get in your stocking or something you give every year?

I usually like to get new makeup. Go figure, right? As far as giving... I always without fail have at least new car fresheners in my hubbies stocking and my daughter always gets new chapstick so she can leave mine alone, at least for a day. ;)

Review: MyNameNecklace.com personalized necklaces

If you haven't heard of these types of necklaces then you have probably seen them before on numerous celebrities, most notably on Carrie (Sarah Michelle Gellar) from Sex in the City.

When My Name Necklace contacted me about reviewing one of their products I thought how fun would that be especially because jewelry is just as much a passion of mine as beauty products. If you couldn't tell from my jewelry storage post.

As much as I love my own name, I decided to go with something a little different and get the word love.

I love (no pun intended) how it turned out. It's great sterling silver quality. It isn't big and bulky, because lets be honest, I'm not trying to look like a rap star sporting his name with huge font. However, it is big enough that you can actually read what it says without getting right up on it or squinting your eyes. It also comes packaged it a cute little box.

My Name Necklace also has the option of personalized earrings, bracelets and rings as well so that's pretty neat. I think these would make some fun Christmas gifts and it looks like on their website you can still order for guaranteed Christmas delivery.

Here are some of my other fave things they carry.

If you use coupon code GIFT you can also get 10% off your purchase. :)

Do you own a necklace like this or bought from this company before? Thoughts?

I can't wait to wear my necklace. I think it's going to look great layered with other pieces as well.

Tip Tuesday: Timesaving Tips: Dinner & Bed

So last week you made it through the afternoon slump but now it's on to the dinner time rush and the bedtime routine. You know that time of the night when you are trying to fit dinner in, get the kids bathed, teeth brush, bedtime story read and in bed with enough time left for you to do some chores around the house and get all of your "I got to get done for tomorrow" things done. Wow, yeah that was a mouth full, but it definitely reiterates what that dinner time rush feels like.

Here are some quick tips to conquer that problem.

  • On your busiest nights, have quick fix meals, like tacos.

  • For quick dinner clean up, use fewer dishes as possible. You don't have to set out everything nice and neat like Sunday supper just go with the flow and do buffet straight from the stove.

  • Establish a routine! It will be easier to get the kids or your night time accomplished when your body is in that routine of bath, brush, and bed.

  • Jot down a quick 'to do' list before bed. It will keep you on track in the morning and as well keep your mind at peace so you aren't worried you forgot something once you lay down.

  • Dim the lights about an hr before bed, it will prepare your body for sleeping.

  • Keep regular hours so your body develops a pattern.

  • Lastly, a tip I'm not sure works because my hubby doesn't really snore unless he's sick. Try whistling softly, it's suppose to help quiet him. I don't know if this one works but if you try it let me know.

What is your busiest part of the night?

Holly Jolly Holiday Tag

The holidays are here! I love this time of year. :)

If you watch youtube beauty gurus then you may have already heard of beautybaby44 and if not then go check her out. She makes some pretty good videos. A bit ago she put up her Holly Jolly Holiday Tag and I thought it would be a great blog post. These questions are from her first and second tag.

On to the tag....

1. Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?

I have already started Christmas shopping. I start from the day after Christmas on through the whole year. Haha! Basically if I find a good deal I'm all about picking it up and putting it back til the time comes. However, I start the majority of my shopping around the beginning of October. I usually like to be done by Dec 1st so I can actually enjoy December.

2. If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?

All of them... Haha! There probably isn't a single Christmas movie that I don't love. Yes, even the cheesy Hallmark, Lifetime, and ABC family movies that come on every year. ;)

3. Which do you like better: Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

That is hard because now that my hubby and I get to play Santa Christmas Eve is a lot of fun but Christmas Day is probably the best when you get to see your daughter get all excited.

4. When does your family put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?

The day after or weekend after Thanksgiving is the usual time we try to shoot for but when you have kids you kind of just go with the flow. We put ours up the weekend before last. haha! I do the majority of the decorating with a little help from my daughter. The hubby used to help with lights but our tree now is prelit so no need for that for now.

5. White lights or colored lights?

clear lights... I really like colored lights too though. I wished I had one of those new prelit trees were you can change the lights from clear to colored. That would be sweet. :)

6. Are you guilty of peeking at your presents or do you like the surprise?

I would much rather be surprised. However, I usually end up knowing just about everything I get for Christmas because my hubby is a horrible surprise giver. haha

Tip Tuesday: Timesaving Edition: The Afternoon Slump

It seems like this always happens to me. I'm a little slow in the morning (they are not my thing) but once the day picks up I'm good to go. Then an hour or two before the evening time gets here I'm all in the "is that clock even moving" mood. Here are a couple tips to keep you going those extra few hours.

  • Drink a cold glass of water.

  • Eat a snack, some nuts will give you energy or a slice of meat for protein.

  • Feeling bored? Call up a friend just to get in a little social contact.

  • Sit up straight! Bad posture makes you tired.

  • Go for a brisk walk or do some quick vigorous exercise like jumping jacks. Boosting your adrenaline or cortisol can give you a shot of energy to get you through the day.

  • Plan to tackle your hardest work during the time you find you feel the most alert.

  • If you are feeling the pressure of getting work done close out your email, turn off your phone and stay away from the distractions.

What gets you through your afternoon blues?

Guest Blogger: Missesdressy.com

Winter dressing is all about getting creative with your wardrobe. Often the cold winter mornings make you feel like swapping your chic clothes for something cozy and comfortable, but dressing for winter doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style.

I am a firm believer that there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to clothing. Its all about experimenting and looking at your clothes from a new perspective.

One layering winter look that seems to be taking the the celebrity world by storm is a sequin prom dress. Why? because it's easy to dress up and easy to dress down. Its an edgy, fresh alternative to the traditional mini skirt.

This dress for example can be transformed from day to night and back again . What is the secret you ask? Well it’s layering of coarse! To create this look, add a chunky knit sweater and a stripe crochet beanie and you have the perfect winter look. Baggy soft leather boots with this outfit add a soft and chic feel.

This dress is the most versatile of the sequin dress looks. The chunky sweater look works perfectly here too but for the ultimate celebrity look add a baggy tee, a jean jacket or blazer and a chunky scarf . This look has been seen on everyone from Mila Kunis to Blake Lively.

Designer Dresses made casual is a great Idea particularly if you want to make the transition from day to night. I don’t know about you but I will be sporting this look this holiday season.
